A NEW wrestling champion was crowned in the North-East on Saturday night.

International wrestling star Bingo Ballance defeated Fife’s Johnny Lions in Aberdeen to win the WrestleZone Undisputed Championship.

The Emerald Isle grappler triumphed in a grueling match with Lions to pick-up his first gold in Scotland, and now stands as the man to beat in the North-East promotion.

After his title victory, the Dublin-based grappler said he was looking forward to returning to the Granite City in December to defend his championship for the very first time.

He added: “Winning the WrestleZone Undisputed Title was, without a doubt, one of the finest moments of my seven-year career.

“I am extremely grateful to the amazing fans in Aberdeen, along with the exceptionally talented men and women of WrestleZone, for making me feel so welcome over the past four years I’ve been with the promotion.

“WrestleZone is a true home-away-from-home for me, and I am unbelievably proud, and honoured, to be their champion.

“I’m looking forward very much to returning in December to defend my title.”

The result ended Lions’ six-month reign with the championship, and Ballance becomes the fourth-ever holder of the Undisputed Title along with Damien and Bryan Tucker.

Also at the event, held at Inchgarth Community Centre, Crusher Craib triumphed in a 3-on-1 match and will now get a one-on-one match with his former boss Richard R. Russell. There were also wins for the Holyrood Blonds, Brian Starr, Blue Thunder and Aspen Faith.

The grapplers will next be in action on Friday, November 9th at the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill, where a big eight-man tag team contest will headline.
